Los Bastardos! - #1 Hits

This was my first attempt at the album a day project. The basic idea is that you have 24 hours to write, record, mix and master an album. Sounds pretty easy doesn't it? It was mostly just a challenge for ourselves. Alex and I were in another band together already and had been playing in bands with each other for about 5 years so we knew how to play off each other and figure songs out as we wrote them. We were aiming for a very raw and dirty recording, more punk than garage but more noise than punk. Kind of Lightning Bolt meets the Misfits...

Starting the recording ended up being the biggest problem in our day. We kept running into trouble getting equipment to work but most of our problems were solved when we built a microphone out of a telephone speaker and a Halloween hockey mask. It looks about as evil as it sounds, especially when running through an overdrive pedal and sharing an amp with a guitar. From beginning to end this album took about 10 hours to complete with a few breaks in between all the fun stuff.

Everything was recorded in one shot, there were no second takes and no practice runs. Most of these songs have been played only once and I highly doubt they will be heard again anywhere else other than in the recordings that exist.

Keep checking back to this site as I slowly leak out a track at a time from #1 Hits...

Tyler McCool & Friends - AADII

This was my second shot at the album a day project, another success! Unlike the last one there was a lot of work involved in this one. About a week before I started an email went out to a bunch of friends telling them to show up between Noon on Saturday and Noon on Sunday. Throughout the day about 8-10 people showed up to take part at various stages throughout the day.

The idea for this one was to create a cleaner sound instead of rushing everything. A lot of loops were used to speed the process up and this time the genres are all over the place. This session gets a little strange... actually it was strange from the get go. The 2am visit from a couple local acid eaters definitely didn't help make things anymore normal.

I finished mixing this one around 4am on the Sunday morning which ended up being about 16 hours from beginning to end.

Keep coming back to this site as I will be slowly leaking the rest of this session as the weeks go on.

The Evil Engine - The Evil Trax

This album was originally released in 1999 on Hot Tub Records. It is more of a compilation of everything we had done up to that point and it was also the last thing we ever released. The band continued on for years after constantly changing the lineup and writing new songs but nothing else was ever really recorded.

Most of the songs on this album came from the first Evil Engine cd "A Man in a Boat... Possibly fishing" which was recorded using cubase in Mike's basement. The lower quality stuff was recorded the year before and was originally released on tape, the title was "Earth Sucks". Unapooper and Mary were both written and recorded on NYE 1998/99 along with a third track that was too "serious" to make the album.

If you like songs about poo and Star Wars this album is probably for you.

Tyler McIntyre - Guitar/Vocals
Emil Klonowski - Bass
Mike Kiere - Drums
